The upcoming 2026 Cheltenham Festival is expected to attract horse racing enthusiasts worldwide. A growing number of punters are opting to enjoy the festival in Benidorm, Spain, rather than in the UK.
The festival will kick off at Cheltenham Races with four days of racing, betting, and entertainment. Despite high ticket demand, some fans are choosing to experience the event in alternative locations.
According to The Sun, hotel reservations in Benidorm have surged by 225% during the festival period, with The Marina Resort Hotel being a popular choice. The resort offers amenities like big screen TVs, pool parties, and live DJ performances to enhance the festival experience.
Many attendees embrace the racing theme by dressing up in fancy costumes. Prices for drinks in Spain are notably cheaper, with the cost of a pint expected to be around £1.70, compared to approximately £7.50 at Cheltenham.
Zoe Harris, chief customer officer of On the Beach, expressed excitement for the anticipated festive atmosphere in Benidorm during the festival. The trend of a Cheltenham-themed trip to Benidorm has gained momentum, coinciding with updates for the 2026 festival edition.
Changes for the upcoming festival include reduced prices for Guinness and beverages, increased flexibility for attendees to carry drinks around the venue, improved food and drink offerings, and the introduction of a new PA system. Additionally, Ladies Day will make a return to the calendar, and the overall capacity of the racecourse has been slightly adjusted.
