Beloved Lancashire Hotel Guy’s Thatched Hamlet Abruptly Closes

A well-known hotel and dining establishment has abruptly ceased operations after operating for 46 years, causing distress among its patrons.

Guys Thatched Hamlet, situated off the A6 near Bilsborrow in Lancashire, has officially closed its doors. The hotel, consisting of 65 rooms and positioned alongside the canal on St Michael’s Road, has terminated all its employees.

A closure notice has been affixed to the hotel’s entrance, confirming the shutdown. The expansive site, spanning nearly 14 acres, encompassed a pub, eatery, sports pavilion, event spaces, a cricket field, bowling green, and three parking lots.

According to the Lancashire Post, the posted message stated: “After 46 years of operation, we announce the closure of Guy’s Thatched Hamlet.

“This decision was challenging and carefully considered. We express our deep gratitude to our loyal customers, dedicated staff, and supportive suppliers over the years.

“The hamlet held significant meaning for many individuals, and as it transitions, our focus is on concluding this chapter.”

Upset customers have taken to social media to share their sorrow over the news. One individual mentioned, “This is where my husband proposed to me in 2012,” while another added, “I also got engaged here in 2015. What a shame.”

Another commenter shared, “I have been a regular at Guys for years, even proposed to my partner in the restaurant and received applause from fellow diners. It’s sad to see it go, hopefully, someone will preserve its essence.”

The Wilkinson family has operated the business since 1980 and listed it for sale last year, citing an approximate net turnover of £4.2 million. The listing did not specify a guide price.

The property, known as Guys Thatched Hamlet & Hotel, is strategically located with easy access to the Lake District, Fylde Coast, and the Trough of Bowland. The hotel boasts 65 en suite rooms, attracting a mix of leisure and commercial clientele.

Situated conveniently on the A6 near Bilsborrow village and bordering the Lancaster Canal, the property is within a 10-minute drive of the M6 and M55 junctions, ideally positioned to cater to business from nearby districts.

Having undergone extensive renovations, adaptations, and extensions since being acquired over four decades ago, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet is a well-known establishment in the North West of England. The business maintains a strong year-round trading base, with peak activity during the summer and festive seasons.
