Katherine Ryan recently recounted a harrowing incident where her husband confronted a burglar who had broken into their home armed with a knife. The Canadian comedian shared the chilling details of the encounter during a discussion with her husband, Bobby Kootstra, on the podcast What’s My Age Again?. The alarming event occurred in 2019.
In a segment of the podcast shared on Instagram, Katherine described the ordeal as “very traumatic” and mentioned how her husband struggled to sleep for a week following the incident. Bobby recalled the eerie moment when he stumbled upon the intruder while fetching a new shirt after spilling wine on himself while cooking pasta.
Confronting the burglar, Bobby recounted the tense exchange as he spotted the masked man holding Katherine’s laptop and gave chase. The situation escalated when the burglar brandished a knife, prompting Bobby to alert nearby police officers, leading to a pursuit that ended when the burglar fled.
The attempted break-in coincided with Katherine and Bobby formalizing their civil partnership, reuniting after two decades apart since their teenage years in Canada. Earlier this year, Katherine announced her pregnancy with their third child, joining their son born in June 2021 and daughter born in December 2022.
The birth of their third child was announced on October 18, 2025, adding to Katherine’s child born in 2008. The family resides together in London.
