“Christmas Massacre: 16 Dead in Arkansas Killing Spree”

In Arkansas, USA, a family faced a tragic and horrifying ordeal during the typically joyful month of December and the festive Christmas season. A former military serviceman with a long history in the US Navy and Air Force carried out a brutal killing spree, resulting in the deaths of 16 individuals, including 14 of his own family members.

The chilling and unforgettable events unfolded over a week in December 1987, leaving a lasting impact to this day. Ronald Gene Simmons Sr., the perpetrator, orchestrated the deadliest familicide in US history by systematically murdering his wife, children, grandchildren, co-workers, and even strangers.

Beginning on December 22, Ronald executed his plan in multiple phases. He started by shooting his wife and oldest son before strangling his three-year-old granddaughter. Subsequently, he awaited the return of four more children from school during the Christmas break, where he individually ended their lives through suffocation in a disturbing manner.

After annihilating his immediate family, Ronald extended his killing spree to include more family members who visited for Christmas. His ruthless actions involved shooting, strangling, and drowning various relatives, demonstrating a heartless disregard for human life.

Following the horrific crimes, Ronald shockingly proceeded to collect pre-ordered Christmas gifts for his deceased family members and indulged in a drink at a club. He then continued his rampage by targeting individuals at different locations before ultimately surrendering to the authorities without resistance.

The tragic Christmastime massacre led to Ronald Gene Simmons Sr. being executed by lethal injection in 1990 at the age of 49, marking a somber conclusion to his murderous rampage. He chose to forego any appeals and was convicted in separate trials for the heinous acts committed in 1988 and 1989.
