An airport in Europe has ceased operations following unidentified drone activity in the vicinity, marking the third such occurrence within a span of two days.
A representative from Vilnius Airport in Lithuania disclosed that the decision to close airspace was taken after the detection of a drone within the airport’s vicinity.
Similarly, two major international airports in Belgium faced disruptions due to drone sightings, resulting in the suspension of operations. Brussels Airport confirmed the halt in departing and arriving flights due to drone presence around the facility.
Subsequently, flight delays and cancellations ensued, with potential ongoing impacts on flight schedules into the following day. Additionally, Charleroi, Brussels’ second-largest airport, briefly suspended air traffic as a precautionary measure, with flights redirected to Liege airport before it also closed due to suspected drone sightings.
