“Crossroads Actor Tony Adams Dies at 84”

Crossroads actor Tony Adams, renowned for his appearances in General Hospital and Doctor Who, has passed away at 84 years old. Hailing from Anglesey, the Welsh performer was most recognized for his portrayal of accountant Adam Chance in Crossroads from 1978 to 1988.

Adams made a significant impact on the show but chose to exit in September 1987. Subsequently, the decision was made to conclude the series in April 1988, and Adams remained until its end. Although he reprised his role in the 2001 revival, his character met a tragic end in a fire.

Reflecting on his early life, Adams was married to Winifred Brown, a pioneering sportswoman and aviator who achieved a historic victory in the 1930 King’s Cup Air Race. His theatrical roots sprouted in childhood, including a notable performance alongside a young Kenneth Williams in Peter Pan at the Scala Theatre.

In the realm of television, Adams gained fame for portraying Dr. Neville Bywaters in the 1970s soap General Hospital. He also featured as Elgin in the Doctor Who series The Green Death, where illness led to some of his lines being reassigned.

Post-Crossroads, Adams graced the stage as Grandpa Potts in the London Palladium’s production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Most recently, he made a cameo appearance in the 2023 ITVX miniseries Nolly, which depicted the life of his former Crossroads co-star Noele Gordon.

In Nolly, Augustus Prew portrayed Adams, describing him as a “magical man” in interviews. Adams passed away on October 25 at Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, with his devoted wife Christine at his side. Christine has been commended for her unwavering support.
