A 24-year-old US Marine named William Richard Roy, stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, has been apprehended for allegedly abducting a 12-year-old girl from a park and lodging with her in a hotel while attempting sexual assault. The incident unfolded when the girl’s grandmother reported her disappearance to authorities, leading to Roy’s arrest in Durham, North Carolina, after he had traveled from Chicago with the girl. The charges against Roy include enticing and transporting a minor across state lines for unlawful sexual activities.
The involvement of the FBI commenced following a report from Hammond, Indiana, about the missing girl. Roy purportedly journeyed to Hammond, where he met the girl in a park before they utilized Uber services to travel to Chicago. Subsequently, they spent the night at a hotel in Chicago and proceeded to board a Greyhound bus to Durham, North Carolina, where the arrest transpired upon their arrival.
In an official statement, the Indianapolis FBI disclosed that Roy had traveled from North Carolina to Indiana with the intention of meeting, kidnapping, and sexually assaulting the 12-year-old girl. Roy was taken into custody in Durham, North Carolina, on October 26, 2025. The charges leveled against him include enticing a minor to travel for illicit sexual activity, transporting a minor for illicit sexual activity, and interstate travel with intent to engage in sexual acts with a minor.
The investigative efforts of the FBI, Hammond Police Department, and US Marshals Service revealed the sequence of events that unfolded, indicating Roy’s movements from Chicago to Hammond and eventually to Durham. Agents from the FBI Charlotte Field Office’s Greensboro and Raleigh Resident Agencies intervened upon the bus’s arrival in Durham, apprehending Roy and safely recovering the child.
