He continued his strong performance in the third heat with a time of 55.63. Weston sealed his victory with a record-breaking final run of 55.61, leading to an emotional celebration with teammate Marcus Wyatt and Team GB coaches.
This win marks a significant comeback for Weston, who finished 15th in the previous Winter Olympics. On the other hand, Wyatt improved in the competition but settled for seventh place with a total time of 3:45.77. German athletes Axel Jungk and Christopher Grotheer secured silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Reflecting on his win, Weston expressed his gratitude, stating, “It means everything. It means a hell of a lot to me personally, I have worked so hard for this. Everyone back at home, my fiancée, my family, my friends, everyone that has sacrificed for me to be here. I have missed funerals, birthdays, everything for this moment and it feels amazing.”
Lauding Weston’s performance, former Olympic champion Lizzie Yarnold highlighted his speed and split-second decision-making abilities. Team GB chef de mission, Eve Muirhead, praised Weston’s composure under pressure and his exceptional performance, emphasizing the dedication and support behind his success.
The victory puts Team GB on the Winter Olympics medal table, showcasing the team’s competitive spirit and determination. Fans and supporters can join the excitement on social media platforms to stay updated on the latest sports news and engage with the community.
