“Eternal Singer Kéllé Bryan Opens Up About Weight Pressures”

Kéllé Bryan has disclosed that concerns about her weight were raised during the peak of Eternal’s success. The singer, part of a new BBC documentary featuring other girlband stars, shared insights into her time with the chart-topping group.

Fellow artists like Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah, Perrie Edwards, Kerry Katona, Natasha Hamilton, and Melanie Blatt will also reflect on their experiences in the music industry, particularly during the era when girl groups dominated the music charts.

Despite the group’s achievements, Kéllé revealed the behind-the-scenes pressure regarding weight issues. She recalled how stylists would criticize their sizes, highlighting the prevalent “size zero” trend of that time. The band was even subjected to dietary control during their career.

Kéllé reminisced about her early days in the music industry, signing her first record deal at 15 alongside Louise (Nurding) Redknapp. The excitement of earning £300 per week and working with her best friend was a dream come true for her.

After Louise’s departure from the group, citing a desire to pursue a solo career and personal struggles, Kéllé acknowledged the impact it had on Eternal. She recognized the void left by Louise’s absence and the challenges the band faced without her.

The BBC documentary, produced by Louis Theroux, explores the success of girl groups in the 90s and beyond, featuring interviews with various artists and industry insiders. The series aims to celebrate the music and talent of that era while delving into the personal journeys and sacrifices made by young women in the spotlight.

Louis Theroux expressed his excitement about the project, emphasizing the significance of girl groups in pop culture history. The series promises a nostalgic look back at the music scene and an authentic exploration of the experiences of young women navigating fame.

Jonathan Rothery, head of BBC popular music TV, highlighted the importance of sharing the stories of influential girl groups in the UK. “Girlbands Forever” offers a mix of musical history and personal narratives, shedding light on the realities faced by young women in the music industry.
