“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” Swings to $700M Record

The latest Spider-Man movie, “Brand New Day,” starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the fastest film to surpass the $700-million mark in North America. This milestone was reached in just 13 days, setting a new record in the industry. Only seven movies in North America have managed to achieve this feat, with notable titles like “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Avengers: Endgame” taking 16 days to hit the same mark.

Directed by Marvel and Sony, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” marks Tom Holland’s fourth appearance as the iconic superhero. The movie also features Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Mark Ruffalo, and newcomer Sadie Sink in key roles. The storyline follows Peter Parker living in a world where his Spider-Man identity has been erased from everyone’s memory, leading him to grapple with loneliness and unpredictable powers.

Breaking records left and right, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has not only grossed over $704.5 million in North America but has also raked in a massive $1.108 billion internationally within just two weekends of its release. Surpassing its predecessor, “No Way Home,” in global earnings, this installment has become Sony’s highest-grossing release in 26 international markets.

The movie’s achievements extend beyond the box office numbers, as it recently surpassed “Avengers: Endgame” for the biggest domestic opening weekend ever. It also secured the title of the highest-grossing first week in domestic box office history and became the second-fastest film to reach $1 billion globally, trailing only behind “Avengers: Endgame.”

Critics have noted a darker tone in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” questioning whether the film is trying to do too much by exploring complex themes of self-identity and the challenges of balancing personal life with crime-fighting duties in New York. The movie’s success continues to captivate audiences and break new ground in the superhero genre.
