Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, previously known as Prince Andrew, has received a crucial warning concerning his seven dogs, which include the two corgis he inherited from Queen Elizabeth II.
Both Andrew and Prince William have been instructed to keep their dogs away from a lake in Windsor Great Park, where King Charles serves as Head Ranger, due to the presence of toxic algae.
The harmful algae has been identified in Obelisk Pond, located just a mile from Royal Lodge, where Andrew was recently asked to vacate. Charles was alerted to a sudden outbreak of the algae in the royal lake and has ordered warning signs to be erected to prevent dogs from entering the water.
In his role as head ranger, Charles has arranged for a team of experts to address the algae infestation, which poses a significant risk to humans as well. Veterinarians caution that dogs could experience severe symptoms such as vomiting, liver damage, and even death if they consume water from Obelisk Pond.
A source from Windsor Castle revealed that Andrew owns two of the Queen’s corgis and five Norfolk terriers, residing just a mile away from the contaminated lake.
Both Andrew and Prince William have been notified via email about the presence of blue-green algae in Obelisk Pond. Warning signs have been posted, and urgent testing is underway in other major lakes within the Great Park.
The Windsor Great Park website has issued a cautionary message urging dog owners to keep their pets away from Obelisk Pond due to the dangerous algae bloom. The Blue Cross animal welfare charity website has also highlighted the risks associated with cyanobacteria, emphasizing the fatal consequences of exposure to toxic blue-green algae in dogs.
Cyanobacteria flourishes in hot, dry conditions with slow or stagnant water flow and is typically dispersed during periods of heavy rainfall. The Crown Estate has assured the public that ongoing monitoring of water quality is being conducted in numerous other lakes across the Great Park in addition to the affected pond.
