The disgraced brother of the King, Andrew, is set to delay his move from his Windsor residence to Sandringham until after the Christmas period. This delay is due to the complex process involved in relinquishing his current home.
Following public outrage over his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and the subsequent sexual assault allegations, Charles took the decision to strip Andrew of his Prince and Duke of York titles. Despite denying the accusations, Andrew has agreed to vacate his 30-room residence.
Sandringham, the traditional Christmas gathering place for the royal family in Norfolk, will potentially avoid any encounters with Andrew during the festive season due to this delay.
Andrew, now referred to as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, has reportedly taken a calm stance on the situation following the King’s decisive actions. The Telegraph newspaper stated that Andrew seems at peace with the events unfolding.
Accused by Virginia Giuffre of sexual assault when she was a teenager and allegedly trafficked by Epstein, Andrew vehemently refutes the claims.
During an interview on Sky News, Virginia’s brother, Sky Roberts, urged for an investigation into Andrew’s actions and expressed the view that the King’s actions were not sufficient and called for further scrutiny.
Furthermore, Roberts called on the King to push US President Donald Trump to release the Epstein files, suggesting a need for more transparency on the matter.
As a result of Charles’ actions, Andrew’s name has been removed from the official peerage roll, signifying the end of his official use of the Duke of York title.
In the coming days, it is anticipated that the King will submit the royal warrant to the Lord Chancellor David Lammy, impacting the dukedom, and issue letters patent to formally revoke Andrew’s right to use the prince and HRH style titles.
Andrew withdrew from public duties in 2019 following a controversial Newsnight interview regarding his association with Epstein. Although he remains eighth in line to the throne, public pressure may prevent any scenario where he could ascend to the monarchy.
Calls have been made for legislative measures to prevent any remote possibility of Andrew becoming King, although Downing Street has confirmed that there are no immediate plans for such changes.
The King will arrange for Andrew to relocate to an undisclosed property within the Sandringham estate, with all accommodations privately financed. Additionally, financial provisions for Andrew will be made by the King.
Negotiations for Andrew to surrender the lease of his Royal Lodge home, which had over 50 years remaining, have been completed after discussions with the King’s representatives. The process is akin to a property transaction and is progressing as swiftly as possible.
