“Four London, Ontario Suspects Face 31 Charges in Explosives Probe”

Four individuals implicated in an investigation involving the production of explosives and firearms in London, Ontario, are now facing 19 additional charges, as per court records submitted on Tuesday. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji were initially charged in January. These individuals were either students or recent graduates of Western University, with the male trio having backgrounds in the university’s engineering department. The updated set of charges filed at the Ontario Court of Justice now totals to 31 separate counts, including joint charges against all four and specific charges against individual suspects.

The newly added charges encompass possession of five distinct explosive substances, possession of stolen property, and accessing computer data related to the creation of firearms. The investigation, which originated on Jan. 24 following a trespassing incident at Western University, led to the apprehension of the accused individuals. Subsequent investigations led law enforcement to a residence in the University Heights neighborhood where the remaining suspects were arrested.

A detailed search was conducted by the police at the residence on Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, along with additional properties in Orléans, Ottawa, and Gatineau. Initially facing firearms-related charges, the quartet now confronts an expanded range of allegations, such as possession of magazines, suppression devices, and other prohibited firearms.

Tong, in particular, faces a bulk of the charges, including allegations related to events in different cities. The accused have been charged with possessing explosive substances, including pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide. Additionally, Wang is charged with unauthorized weapon manufacturing between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026, along with breaking into a Western facility on October 9, 2025.

Court documents also reveal that the accused collectively face charges of possessing property belonging to Western University valued at less than $5,000. Furthermore, Wang is individually charged with accessing firearm-related computer data for manufacturing purposes. Presently, Tong remains in custody, while the remaining three accused are navigating the legal process, with two released on bail under stringent conditions.

The four individuals are currently undergoing legal proceedings, with differing numbers of charges leveled against each. Wang and Ji have been granted bail, whereas Tong opted against requesting bail and Han was remanded in custody following a denied bail request in February. Wang’s bail conditions include 24-hour house arrest and supervision by two sureties who posted $200,000 each, while Ji is out on bail without sureties.
