A Glasgow woman, Carol Butterly, had her life completely changed when she discovered a cancerous lump earlier this year. The lump was found after she sat down following a shower on February 15, 2025, the day after Valentine’s Day. Concerned, she promptly sought her husband’s opinion, who advised her to schedule an appointment. Carol was seen by a doctor the next day, leading to rapid progression with a mammogram, biopsy, and subsequent surgery.
In an interview with Glasgow Live, Carol, who is 69 years old, recounted the moment she felt the lump and the swift medical response that followed. Initially, it was believed that only the initial lump needed removal, but further tests revealed another, necessitating a full mastectomy. Despite the challenging diagnosis, Carol’s resilience and humor remained unwavering, aiding her through the difficult period.
Maintaining a positive outlook has been crucial for Carol, who emphasized the importance of humor and support from friends and organizations like Beatson Cancer Charity. She expressed gratitude for the care received at Beatson, highlighting the exceptional kindness and camaraderie among patients.
Following her treatment and recovery, Carol is now in good spirits, emphasizing the significance of taking each day as it comes and moving forward. In light of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, she encourages others to conduct regular self-checks and seek early intervention if needed. Carol has channeled her journey into a book titled “Didn’t Expect That, Did You,” with all proceeds being donated to Beatson Cancer Charity.
