“Canadians Call for Expulsion of U.S. Ambassador Hoekstra”

A significant number of Canadian citizens have signed a petition urging for the expulsion of the U.S. Ambassador, Pete Hoekstra, from Canada.

The online petition, scheduled for presentation in the House of Commons, advocates declaring Hoekstra persona non grata and requesting his removal as the U.S. ambassador to Canada.

By Wednesday morning, close to 60,000 individuals had signed the petition, representing a nearly twofold increase from the previous day.

The petition alleges that Hoekstra’s statements have been detrimental to the Canada-U.S. diplomatic relationship and have involved unwarranted interventions in Canadian political discussions, breaching diplomatic protocols.

It calls for the Liberal government to task a parliamentary committee with examining U.S. diplomatic interference in Canadian affairs.

Originating from a Calgary resident, the petition will be formally presented in Parliament by Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, highlighting that Members of Parliament can submit petitions without necessarily endorsing their content.

The petition also condemns Hoekstra for normalizing the Trump administration’s threats regarding Canada’s potential annexation.

In June, Hoekstra sparked controversy by suggesting that the annexation of Canada by the United States could be an interesting topic for discussion between Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Donald Trump.

In anticipation of the U.S.’s 250th anniversary, Pete Hoekstra, the U.S. Ambassador to Canada, engaged in discussions with CBC’s Ottawa Morning host, Rebecca Zandbergen, concerning tariffs, CUSMA negotiations, and the 51st state conjectures.

During a speech in Halifax last September, Hoekstra expressed disappointment and frustration over the perceived anti-American sentiment during the recent federal election campaign, cautioning against labeling the Trump administration’s tariff strategy as a trade war.</
