Jeff Zimmerman, aged 71, was brutally attacked by an unknown assailant as he walked his pet in his Phoenix, Arizona neighborhood in the United States. The attack only ceased when a courageous couple intervened and physically removed the attacker.
The elderly man, a survivor of a brain tumor for 16 years, endured severe head injuries, multiple fractures, and eye trauma during the assault. He spent four days in an intensive care unit and has now been transferred to a trauma center for ongoing care.
Jeff’s family has initiated a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to raise $40,000 (£29,000) to cover his medical expenses. They express particular concern about his eyesight due to existing vision issues from his previous medical condition.
His family describes Jeff as being in significant pain and facing a challenging recovery journey ahead. His daughter, Kiera, emotionally shared on the fundraising page that instead of celebrating his upcoming 72nd birthday, he is now fighting for healing.
Despite enduring chronic headaches and neurological challenges, Jeff is portrayed as a resilient and loving individual who continues to inspire those around him with his positive spirit.
All donations received will be allocated towards his medical care, rehabilitation, vision treatments, and daily living costs during his recovery period.
The attacker, who was riding a bicycle, initiated the unprovoked assault on Jeffrey, causing him to fall to the ground. Police are actively investigating the incident and aim to provide updates on the suspect in due course.
