“Carol Vorderman Embraces Freedom with ‘Special Friends'”

Carol Vorderman has addressed Pete Wicks’ remarks about a “crush” while talking about her love life. The former Countdown star, aged 64, disclosed that she has been predominantly single for the past 15 years after ending her relationship with journalist Des Kelly.

Having been married twice, Carol revealed in 2022 that she no longer seeks exclusive relationships. Instead, she now prefers having multiple “special friends” for more casual connections.

According to reports from Wales Online, Carol finds this lifestyle liberating. However, during a recent interview with Yours magazine, she chose not to disclose the exact number of special friends she currently maintains.

She stated, “I have had what I would call medium-term boyfriends for about a year, but I have essentially been single for approximately 15 years.”

Carol explained, “I have a close-knit family, wonderful friends, and my two children. We have a strong bond. I feel fulfilled with the love and presence of these relationships.”

This article revisits Carol’s romantic journey, including a playful comment from former The Only Way is Essex star Pete Wicks.

Carol got married for the first time at 24 to Royal Navy officer Christopher Mather, but the marriage lasted only a year.

She admitted to doing something unconventional during the wedding ceremony.

Speaking on BBC Wales, Carol recalled, “I wore a traditional white dress for the ceremony, but for the evening, I found a more daring outfit, reminiscent of attire seen on Strictly Come Dancing, completely mesh with sequins strategically placed.”

“So, I wore something that perhaps wasn’t typical for a bride and proceeded to sing ‘It’s Raining Men’ on stage.”

In 1990, Carol married management consultant Patrick King, and they had two children, Katie and Cameron, before separating in 2000.

Following her divorce, Carol had a five-year relationship with Des, which ended in 2006. The couple briefly reconciled but eventually went their separate ways for good.

Carol expressed her sense of freedom in maintaining special friendships rather than committing to a traditional monogamous relationship.

During a 2022 appearance on This Morning, Carol shared, “Our upbringing often emphasized finding a lifelong partner at a young age. My perspective diverges from that norm.”

She added, “I see my life in phases, and this current chapter began around the age of
