Police were shocked by the gruesome scene they encountered after responding to a man’s call claiming he had shot his wife. Dave Meyer, then 69 years old, made a distressing 911 call from his residence in Roy, Utah on January 21, 2023, confessing to shooting his 62-year-old wife, Suzanne Meyer, in the head.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Suzanne’s lifeless body on the bed in a peculiar position, with her feet on the floor as though she had been kneeling. She had succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound, as detailed in the Real Crime Psychology podcast, with a noticeable scent of decay lingering in the room.
Meyer, in a composed manner during police questioning, disclosed that his previously athletic and vigorous wife had endured unrelenting agony following a jogging accident in Hawaii where she was hit by a cyclist. The incident left her incapacitated and reliant on medication due to steel pins inserted in her spine for repair.
Claiming that Suzanne had repeatedly pleaded for an end to her suffering, Meyer confessed that he couldn’t bear to witness her pain any longer. Despite his explanation, testimonies from witnesses painted a darker picture of the events leading up to the tragic incident.
Suzanne’s sister, Sandy, vehemently denied Meyer’s account, asserting that her sister had not expressed any desire to end her life. Sandy further alleged that Meyer had coerced Suzanne into engaging in illicit activities and subjected her to threats and abuse.
Additional revelations from a gym client shed light on Meyer’s tumultuous relationship with his wife, suggesting a history of violence and premeditation. Subsequently, Meyer accepted a plea deal in March 2023, admitting guilt to murder in exchange for the dismissal of other charges. He was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison on May 10, 2024, by Judge Joseph Bean at the second district court in Ogden, Utah, where he remains incarcerated at the Utah State Prison.
