The Prime Minister has made a commitment to future generations by announcing a set of agreements aimed at advancing the “clean energy revolution.” Opposition leader Keir Starmer is scheduled to participate in COP 30 in Belem, Brazil, where he will emphasize the economic potential of clean energy in the 21st century, highlighting its ability to create jobs and stimulate growth.
The PM’s announcement coincides with the unveiling of partnerships with various companies such as ScottishPower, JERA Nex bp, EnBW, and Statera Energy. Prior to his address, the Prime Minister emphasized that the UK has attracted £50 billion in investments in clean energy sectors over the past year, with an anticipated 800,000 new jobs by the end of the decade.
He stated, “Our mission to drive the clean power revolution is moving ahead at full throttle – ensuring energy security, reducing bills permanently, and fostering growth in communities nationwide. By creating well-paying jobs in Great Yarmouth, Belfast, and Greater Manchester, we are actively renewing the nation, advocating for the interests of workers throughout the UK.”

The newly established agreements include over £100 million allocated to Belfast Harbour to facilitate the construction of two significant offshore wind farms in the Irish Sea, while Carrington in Greater Manchester is set to become home to one of the largest battery facilities in the UK.
Additional investments will support the development of the Port of East Anglia, with Scottish Power backing the East Anglia TWO windfarm in the North Sea. Moreover, Scottish Power and Peel Ports Group have jointly invested £10 million to enhance the port’s Northern Terminal for future offshore wind projects, creating around 100 jobs.
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband reaffirmed Britain’s commitment to energy goals, stating, “The UK’s message at COP30 is clear: collaboration to combat climate change is the path to quality jobs, energy stability, and economic progress – let’s move forward with it.”
Earlier this week, the Prime Minister expressed to sixth formers his motivation for attending COP, citing the responsibility to safeguard the planet for future generations and protect hundreds of thousands of jobs in the country.
