Luke Littler shared that a remark by Ricardo Pietreczko motivated him to triumph over the German 10-6 and secure a spot in the Players Championship Finals quarter-final. Despite initially trailing 3-1 against Pietreczko, Littler, also known as ‘The Nuke,’ staged a comeback, clinching nine out of the next 12 legs with an impressive average to advance to the last eight in Minehead.
The turning point in the match came during the interval when the score was tied at five each, and Pietreczko’s comment fueled Littler’s determination. Reflecting on the moment, Littler stated that Pietreczko’s words only fueled his resolve to win, leading to a display of showboating in response to the challenge.
Having recently claimed the world No.1 title following his Grand Slam victory, the young prodigy born in 2007 showcased stellar performance statistics, averaging 102.67 and hitting six 180s. Notably, Littler replicated a contentious 121 finish from a previous encounter with Pietreczko on the European Tour, sealing it with his signature bull, treble 7, bull combination.
Assessing his performance, Littler expressed his satisfaction with the comeback, acknowledging areas for improvement on his doubles game. He looks forward to facing world No.9 Chris Dobey in the upcoming quarter-final, with the possibility of meeting either Gerwyn Price or Daryl Gurney in the semi-final if successful.
Additionally, Nathan Aspinall and Josh Rock will compete in another quarter-final match, while James Wade and Jermaine Wattimena will conclude the afternoon session at the Players Championship Finals.
