A teacher who was married has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for engaging in sexual activities with students and providing them with drugs and alcohol. Carissa Jane Smith, aged 30, was found guilty of exchanging money, alcohol, and marijuana with students for sexual favors. The former substitute teacher was apprehended in November of the previous year and faced charges including statutory rape and child sex trafficking. She admitted to lesser charges in September.
During the court proceedings, disturbing accusations emerged, such as a student’s claim that Smith coerced him into ejaculating inside her. Additionally, she reportedly destroyed a student’s phone after he mentioned having a video of her performing sexual acts.
In another incident, a student was allegedly lured by a classmate to Smith’s residence under the pretense of making money, where the misconduct took place while the friend waited outside.
Furthermore, it was revealed that Smith’s husband threatened one of the students with a baseball bat after Smith disclosed that she was being extorted with a video showing them using drugs.
One of the victims disclosed to law enforcement that interactions with Smith began in August 2023 when he was attending middle school, and she was substituting for his class. According to police records, Smith shared her Snapchat details with students and sent them explicit images.
Authorities stated that the teacher engaged in sexual activities with students at her home and various other locations, including gravel roads, multiple times over a year. The Dixon School District expressed deep concern over Smith’s alleged actions, describing them as troubling and distressing.
