Amid the ongoing Jeffrey Epstein scandal, a tree planted by the embattled Andrew Mountbatten Windsor faces possible removal.
The Irish Yew tree, commemorating Lisburn’s 400th anniversary, was originally planted by the then-Prince Andrew under the Northern Ireland Office’s supervision. However, its fate now hangs in the balance following Andrew Windsor’s recent loss of royal titles due to his association with Epstein.
While Andrew vehemently denies the accusations against him, his privileges have been revoked, prompting the Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council to consider reassessing his legacy in the area.
In response to the situation, a council spokesperson emphasized the significance of the tree in acknowledging Lisburn’s history and affirmed their commitment to sustainability by stating that they do not intend to uproot it. They also mentioned that any decisions regarding the associated plaque would align with guidance from the Northern Ireland Office, with further updates awaited.
The region of Lisburn and Castlereagh holds strong ties to the Royal Family, with Hillsborough Castle in County Down being officially recognized as the Royal residence for Northern Ireland in 2021.
Andrew’s downfall stems from allegations by Virginia Giuffre, who claimed to have engaged in sexual activities with the former Duke at Ghislaine Maxwell’s residence when she was 17. Despite Andrew’s denial of these accusations, mounting pressure following revelations in Giuffre’s memoir “Nobody’s Girl” led to his loss of titles and eviction from the Royal Lodge in Windsor, as well as removal from the official peerages list.
Although Andrew remains eighth in line to the throne and the UK Government has no plans to alter the line of succession, his circumstances have been described as “bleak” and “lonely” by a former royal courtier. The individual, who has spent time at Sandringham, highlighted the isolated nature of Andrew’s current existence, emphasizing his limited interactions with farm staff while residing on the property.
This development comes as Andrew continues to navigate the aftermath of his association with Epstein and strives to redefine his position within the royal hierarchy.
