Russian President Vladimir Putin has revealed that he purposely allowed a NATO spy vessel to monitor Russia’s recent nuclear missile test, showcasing the country’s possession of what he described as “the most deadly long-range weapon in the world.”
Putin also issued warnings of a potential World War III by announcing the development of even more powerful nuclear missiles. He praised the Burevestnik nuclear missile, also known as the ‘Flying Chernobyl,’ claiming it outperforms all other missile systems globally. During a 15-hour test in the Arctic region, the missile reportedly flew 8,700 miles, demonstrating its capabilities.
Speaking at an event where he awarded top medals to the scientists behind the new Burevestnik and Poseidon missile systems, Putin emphasized the precision and reliability of the Burevestnik’s high target accuracy. He highlighted that foreign experts, including those aboard a NATO surveillance vessel present during the test, could witness the missile’s performance without interference.
The Burevestnik missile, developed by a large team of Russian scientists and laborers, is designed to remain airborne for extended periods before striking designated targets. Putin also commended the Poseidon underwater drone, powered by its atomic reactor, capable of potentially generating radioactive tidal waves in Western nations.
Despite the potency of these weapons, Putin mentioned ongoing development of a “new generation of weapons,” including nuclear-powered cruise missiles with speeds exceeding three times the speed of sound, potentially reaching hypersonic velocities in the future.
Furthermore, Putin highlighted the broader applications of the technology in advancing space and Arctic exploration, as well as providing civilian benefits in Russia. He mentioned the potential use of mini nuclear reactors for energy generation in remote areas like the Arctic, offering light, heat, and supporting digital infrastructure and communication systems.
In a separate development, Ukraine reportedly targeted Russian power plants overnight with explosions in the Oryol and Vladimir regions, following an attack on the headquarters of Russia’s elite Rubicon drone unit in Avdiyivka, Donetsk region. The strike, allegedly carried out by Ukraine’s GUR military intelligence agency using an unmanned vehicle equipped with explosives, resulted in the elimination of personnel within the Rubicon center, known for employing combat UAVs in the conflict against Ukraine.
