An investigation by the police is ongoing following a disturbing incident that was filmed in Piccadilly Gardens.
Authorities are looking into a video capturing a confrontation in central Manchester, circulating on social media, depicting a group of individuals engaging in a fight with two others. The footage was reportedly taken on Halloween night.
Witnesses observed individuals kicking and punching each other while bystanders recorded the altercation on their phones. The video initially shows a scuffle where two individuals seemed to be repeatedly striking another person.
In the video, one of the individuals, dressed only in shorts, continued to fight while being approached by someone in a hood who struck them and their companion. The shirtless individual was seen bleeding as others attacked them, including someone from a larger group wearing black hooded coats who hit them with a crutch.
The person filming the scene can be heard saying, “This is going off.” Additionally, a man wearing a Christmas hat was seen observing the violence, according to reports from the Manchester Evening News.
Following the incident, the pair walked away from Piccadilly Gardens, trailed by a significant number of people in black attire, after which the video concluded.
A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Police confirmed awareness of the video and stated, “We are aware of video footage circulating, which is currently being reviewed.”
Piccadilly Gardens has gained notoriety for crime and antisocial behavior in recent times. Efforts by Manchester City Council have been directed towards diminishing the perception and occurrence of crime in the city center.
Earlier this year, proposals were unveiled for a substantial renovation of the area with the aim of restoring it to a space that Mancunians can once again take pride in.
