“Netflix Viewers Beware: Fines Up to £1,000 for Unlicensed Live Broadcasts”

Homes equipped with Netflix may face fines of up to £1,000 for non-compliance with a straightforward UK law. The regulations regarding TV streaming are quite explicit. While indulging in a box set marathon or movie-watching session on online platforms like Netflix, possessing a TV Licence is unnecessary. Yet, the scenario shifts the moment live coverage comes into play, a common occurrence during weekends.

Renowned boxer Tyson Fury is set to return to the ring on Saturday, April 11, in a showdown against Arslanbek Makhmudov, which will be live-streamed on Netflix. Subscribers need not worry about additional charges to witness the action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Nevertheless, a caution accompanies tuning in. TV Licensing’s team emphasizes, “If you are viewing a live broadcast on Netflix, you must have a TV Licence.” On-demand programs on Netflix, however, do not necessitate a TV Licence.

Tyson Fury’s comeback bout against Russian boxer Arslanbek Makhmudov in a heavyweight clash in London on April 11 will be available for viewing on Netflix. Fans can access this fight for free through Sky’s £15 Essential TV bundle or the £24 Ultimate TV bundle, the latter also featuring HBO Max and Disney+.

It’s a caution not to be taken lightly, as individuals caught in violation could face substantial financial penalties. “Prosecution is possible if illicit viewing, recording, or downloading of programs is detected. The maximum penalty involves a £1,000 fine in addition to legal costs and potential compensation,” warns TV Licensing.

Therefore, for those planning to enjoy the major fight on Netflix, ensuring compliance with fees and regulations is advisable. Remember, a standard TV Licence is priced at £180, while a black and white licence costs £60.50.
