New distressing revelations have surfaced in the wake of the tragic killing of Rebecca Park and her unborn child. Rebecca, who was nearing her delivery date, was last sighted on November 3. Her remains were found in a wooded area on November 25, with no trace of the baby, and an examination confirmed she was no longer pregnant.
Cortney Bartholomew, aged 40, the biological mother of the victim, and Bradley Bartholomew, aged 47, her stepfather, are facing multiple charges, including murder, torture, illegal confinement, and tampering with a deceased body.
A substantial search operation was initiated after Rebecca disappeared just days before her anticipated delivery. Her body was located in the Manistee National Forest, near Lake Michigan’s shores.
Authorities stated that on November 3, the Bartholomews enticed Rebecca, who was 38 weeks pregnant, to their residence in Boon. She was reported missing on November 4 after being last seen the previous day entering a vehicle at her mother’s residence.
The couple was apprehended and charged with her murder on December 1. During their court appearance the following day, prosecutors alleged that Cortney extracted her unborn child from her daughter’s womb. Wexford County Prosecutor Johanna Carey described it as “pure evil,” labeling it a “premeditated act of torture and murder,” asserting that they devised a plan and conducted research.
At the hearing for Cortney and Bradley on December 2, prosecutors disclosed various gruesome details about Rebecca’s demise, including the tragic fate of her unborn child. They claimed that Rebecca was still alive when Cortney allegedly performed the extraction.
“Mr. Bartholomew transported Rebecca to their residence, [he and Cortney] then took her to the woods where they inflicted stab wounds, compelled her to lie down while they conducted the extraction, leading to her demise and the baby’s demise,” Carey informed the court. “Subsequently, they abandoned Rebecca in the woods.”
After persistently denying involvement in Rebecca’s murder, Cortney apparently altered her story when informed by investigators that her phone data placed her at the site where Rebecca’s body was discovered on the night of the incident. She purportedly confessed during her second interrogation that she carried out the extraction with the intention of saving the child and giving it to Rebecca’s fiancé, Richard Lee Falor.
According to the affidavit, she claimed it was Bradley who killed Rebecca, alleging he forced her into a vehicle, inflicted multiple stab wounds, and then she proceeded with the extraction. Cortney informed the police that the baby did not survive after being extracted.
“While extracting the baby, Cortney stated that Rebecca was conscious, and Bradley held a knife to her throat,” detailed the affidavit. Cortney mentioned that Rebecca’s body was later concealed in foliage down a slope, while the fetus was placed in a cooler, then a garbage bag, before being disposed of in a dumpster.
Meanwhile, Bradley alleged that Cortney orchestrated the entire operation, driven by her desire for more children due to
