Tragedy struck as a man lost his life inside a charity donation bin due to breathing difficulties.
The 45-year-old made a distress call to the authorities when he got stuck in a large clothing donation container earlier this week. He reached out to the police at 1:36 am on Monday, reporting his struggle to breathe while trapped inside. During the call, he was heard pleading, “I can’t breathe, I’m having problems breathing.”
Despite prompt response from emergency teams, the man was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities suspect that the man was trying to retrieve clothing from the bin, which had a security feature, leading to his entrapment.
Mark Herman, a constable in Harris County, Texas, stated, “First responders located the individual and initiated rescue efforts. Fire crews worked to access and extract the person; however, he was later confirmed deceased at the scene.
“Please stay clear of the area to allow emergency personnel to perform their duties. Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this unfortunate event.”
Arms of Hope, the organization managing the donation bin, released a statement expressing condolences for the deceased individual’s family and friends. Due to the ongoing investigation, detailed information cannot be disclosed at this time.” Authorities are actively investigating the incident.
This incident follows the tragic death of a mother who was trapped in a charity clothes bin while sorting through donations. Alarrah Lawrence was found in a devastating position at a clothing bank in Australia in July 2021.
CCTV footage revealed the mother driving to a shopping center, then approaching the bin around 1:40 am. Standing on a bucket to inspect the Good Sammys charity box, the 33-year-old began searching the donated items.
It is believed that she slipped off the bucket, leaving her upper body trapped and her legs dangling. Unfortunately, by the time her body was noticed, she had already passed away.
In a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, the grieving boyfriend expressed his sorrow, saying, “This world is cruel. Can’t believe you’re gone. I’m devastated and words can’t explain. I’m going to miss you and I just wish I could tell you I love you one more time, my soulmate.”
