“Israeli Settler Militants Attack Palestinian Homes in West Bank”

Dozens of Israeli settler militants wearing masks launched an assault on homes near the occupied West Bank village of Qusra over the weekend, marking the first significant attack following a recent incident that garnered international attention. Witnesses informed Reuters that in one instance, the settlers encircled a Palestinian residence and hurled stones while seven occupants were trapped inside.

Saddam Oday, one of the trapped individuals, recounted that the Israeli military deployed tear gas into the house, detained the residents, but released him without holding any settlers accountable. Luay Bayrudi, the homeowner, reported that upon the military’s arrival, the soldiers handcuffed, blindfolded, and assaulted those inside before eventually setting them free.

Israeli authorities stated that troops and border police intervened to disperse “rioters” and safeguard the inhabitants within the targeted residence. Allegations of tear gas usage, detainment, and physical violence against the residents by the military remain unanswered.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly denounced the violence in Qusra, attributing it to a “handful of rioters.” Residents in the area have reported frequent incursions by settlers, leading to heightened tensions and clashes with Palestinian villagers.

Rights organizations have highlighted the escalating settler presence near Palestinian communities like Qusra as part of a broader campaign to expand settlements and seize Palestinian land. The surge in settler violence in the West Bank, encouraged by the Israeli government’s settlement policies under Netanyahu, has raised concerns internationally.

Efforts to prevent further disturbances in Qusra and neighboring Jalud are ongoing, according to the Israeli military. The status of settlements in the region remains contentious, with international bodies and most countries deeming them illegal under occupation laws while Israel disputes this classification.

The situation in the West Bank has prompted discussions on the implications of settler violence against Palestinians, with a particular focus on the stance of Netanyahu’s administration. Recent events have underscored the challenges faced by Palestinian communities in the region amidst ongoing tensions and conflicts.
