Former England cricketer Tony Pigott, known for his impressive career with over 1,000 wickets, has passed away at 67. Pigott, a former Sussex seam bowler, succumbed to a heart attack after battling oesophageal cancer. In 1984, Pigott received a sudden call-up to play for England against New Zealand in Christchurch, despite having wedding plans during the series. Following his international stint, Pigott spent 18 years at Sussex before moving to Surrey in 1994 due to recurring injuries. Eventually, he returned to Sussex in 1997, leading a successful takeover and eventually becoming the CEO. Pigott played a pivotal role in Sussex’s triumph in the County Championship in 2003 and was instrumental in installing floodlights at Hove Ground, a first in the UK.
