Railway enthusiasts and historians are anticipated to gather in a town in Essex early on Sunday morning to witness the inauguration of the first new train station on the Eastern main line in a century.
The unveiling of Beaulieu Park station marks a significant milestone as it becomes the initial station to open on this section of the UK network since the 1920s. The station, valued at £175 million, is set to open four months ahead of schedule with the first train scheduled to arrive at 7:20 am on Sunday.
Excitement is building as passengers have already secured their tickets for the Colchester to London Liverpool St train, eager to be a part of history by disembarking at the new station. Andy Cross, 47, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I want to be part of history and experience the first station opening on the Eastern mainline after such a long period. I expect numerous photographers to be present at Beaulieu Park to capture this historic moment.”
The station is a vital component of a new environmentally friendly initiative near Chelmsford. Martin Beable, Managing Director of Greater Anglia, highlighted the significance of the station, emphasizing the improved travel accessibility it will offer passengers with up to four trains per hour during peak times and two trains per hour during off-peak hours.
Councillor Louise McKinlay, Deputy Leader at Essex County Council, praised the station’s role in enhancing regional travel and supporting future growth initiatives. The completion of the station is seen as a remarkable achievement, with expectations of positive impacts on the local transportation network for years to come.
The introduction of the new station is expected to alleviate congestion at the Chelmsford train station, facilitating easier travel for commuters from the north of the city. Additionally, the station is a key element of the Beaulieu and Channels neighborhoods, forming part of the new Chelmsford Garden Community development.
