A former Northamptonshire Police chief constable, Nick Adderley, faces charges of fraud and misconduct in public office for allegedly making false claims during his application process. The Crown Prosecution Service revealed that the charges are related to Adderley’s purported military service and academic accomplishments.
The decision to prosecute Adderley follows an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct, an organization that handles serious complaints within British policing. Malcolm McHaffie, the head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s Special Crime Division, stated that there is sufficient evidence to proceed with the case and that it is in the public interest to pursue legal action.
Adderley is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on November 10. The Crown Prosecution Service collaborated closely with the Independent Office for Police Conduct throughout their inquiry into the matter.
