Corus Entertainment has implemented reductions within its television and radio divisions. A spokesperson for the company mentioned that a limited number of alterations have been enacted in specific markets, affecting positions at Global B.C., Global National, News 640, and talk radio. These changes, while challenging, are deemed essential to ensure the sustainability of their teams’ structure, with the goal of minimizing disruptions to local news and audio services. This recent action follows previous job cuts, primarily in Western Canada earlier this year, that were part of programming adjustments nationwide.
In its third-quarter report, Corus disclosed a net loss attributable to shareholders amounting to $36.5 million, with revenue declining by 16% compared to the same period the previous year. The company is currently awaiting approval for its proposed recapitalization strategy, which involves lenders exchanging debt for equity in a new parent entity.
