Canada’s Marco Arop secured the fourth position on Friday at the Diamond League event held in Lausanne, Switzerland, at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise. Arop started strong, leading the pack into the final lap but couldn’t sustain the pace, finishing with a time of 1:43.18.
The victory in the men’s 800m race went to Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi with a time of 1:42.19, followed by Djamel Sedjati from Algeria who achieved a season-best time of 1:42.31, and American Brandon Miller finishing third at 1:42.55.
In the previous year, Arop and shot putter Sarah Mitton were the sole Canadians to qualify for the Diamond League Final in Zurich, both claiming third place. Arop was ranked second in the men’s 800m Diamond League standings before the recent race, trailing behind Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi but in a favorable position to secure a spot in the Final.
The 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final is scheduled for September 4–5 in Brussels, Belgium.
