Boycott Calls for McCullum’s Dismissal After Ashes Loss

Sir Geoffrey Boycott has urged for the dismissal of Brendon McCullum following England’s embarrassing loss in the Ashes series. Australia secured victory in the third Test, leading to the series outcome being determined in just 11 days of play.

The 1921 Ashes remains the only series decided in fewer days, with Australia dominating with a 3-0 lead. Despite England’s upcoming matches in Melbourne and Sydney, the focus has shifted to post the 2025-26 series.

McCullum, aged 44, took over in May 2022, guiding England from one win in 17 Test matches to 10 victories in their next 11 games under Ben Stokes’ captaincy. However, criticism has mounted on their aggressive playing style dubbed ‘Bazball,’ with recent losses to India and a drawn series at home.

Boycott, a vocal critic of Bazball, believes a change is needed, emphasizing the necessity for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to act swiftly. He highlighted the need for a shift in leadership and strategy to propel the team to the next level.

In response to England’s defeat, McCullum acknowledged his coaching errors, particularly in the preparation for the crucial series. He admitted to shortcomings and expressed a willingness to address the team’s performance issues.

Sky has announced a discount on its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the upcoming season, offering savings and an expanded lineup of live sports matches, including over 1,400 games from the Premier League and EFL. The package will feature at least 215 live Premier League matches, a significant increase from previous seasons.
