An individual has been apprehended in India following an incident where two members of Australia’s Women’s Cricket World Cup squad were subjected to inappropriate touching while on the street. The Australian team is currently engaged in their final group stage match against South Africa at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, India.
The incident occurred the day after Australia’s victorious match against England at the same venue. Two players were walking from their hotel to a café when they were approached by a motorcyclist and encountered the inappropriate behavior.
Cricket Australia issued a statement confirming the incident and reported the matter to the local authorities, who are currently handling the case. The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Himani Mishra, confirmed that an arrest has been made in connection with the incident, with an ongoing investigation in progress.
Local media quoted another officer stating that prompt action was taken based on the information provided, leading to the identification and arrest of the individual involved. Additional security measures have been implemented at the tournament following the incident.
The Australian team, favored to win the tournament, has been staying in Indore but will depart after the South Africa game, having secured a spot in the semi-finals. With an impressive track record in the competition, Australia has won five out of six matches, leading the table with 11 points.
