Alanis Morissette has taken legal action against her former tour manager, accusing her of engaging in what Morissette describes as a “deliberate blackmail scheme” to implicate Morissette in drug trafficking unless Morissette agreed to hire her for an extended contract.
In the lawsuit filed in California, Morissette claims that Keren Urinov, the former tour manager, has been pressuring her to employ her as a tour director for 15 years and provide significant compensation. Morissette is suing Urinov for civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation, stating that she refuses to succumb to blackmail and is seeking justice to expose Urinov’s actions and hold her accountable.
The incident dates back to 2025 when Urinov, who previously worked for Live Nation in Israel, was hired temporarily as a tour manager for Morissette’s world tour. During a trip from the UK to Spain for a concert, Urinov was allegedly arrested at the airport after a bag she claimed ownership of was flagged by British authorities for containing marijuana and xylazine, an animal tranquilizer.
Following the airport incident, Urinov allegedly admitted the bag and drugs were hers, presenting her Israeli medical marijuana license to the authorities, leading to her release. However, subsequent events involved Urinov being detained again the following day for questioning about the previous incident.
The lawsuit mentions Urinov’s attempt to coerce Morissette into signing a long-term contract through a series of threatening letters, demanding employment terms equivalent to that of a tour director with additional benefits. Allegedly, Urinov also requested assistance in obtaining a work visa for the US, threatening further demands if unsuccessful.
Morissette’s lawsuit further reveals her dissatisfaction with Urinov’s management during the 2025 tour, citing instances of financial mismanagement and undisclosed criminal history that Urinov failed to disclose during her hiring process. Despite her reluctance, Morissette felt compelled to take legal action against Urinov to prevent being coerced into a long-term partnership under duress.
Morissette is now seeking a trial by jury in this legal battle. Attempts to reach out to Urinov and Morissette’s representatives for comment have been unsuccessful as of now.
