A powerful tornado wreaked havoc on the village of Pomas in southern France, causing extensive damage to over 300 homes and injuring numerous individuals. Fortunately, no one has been reported missing following the disaster.
According to the Aude prefecture, as of Tuesday morning, approximately 1,400 households remained without electricity. The tornado was captured in a social media video above the village of Verzeille, located just a few kilometers east of Pomas. The destructive path of the tornado resulted in shattered windows in many homes.
Photographs from the aftermath depict a man surveying the wreckage of a damaged house in Pomas, debris scattered inside the Saint Julien et Sainte Basilisse church after its roof collapsed, fallen trees in a cemetery, men covering a damaged building’s roof with a tarp, and pedestrians passing a fallen tree near damaged residences in Pomas.
The community is now in the process of assessing the damage and beginning cleanup efforts in the wake of this natural disaster.
