Despite confirming the numbers with a colleague, his elation was short-lived when the Calgary Stampede informed him that the 48-hour window to claim the prize had lapsed.
Geiger promptly contacted the Stampede after his win, but unfortunately, he missed the deadline for claiming the prize. The Calgary Stampede, following regulations set by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC), stated that prizes must be claimed within the specified timeframe, which Geiger failed to meet.
Expressing his disappointment and frustration, Geiger questioned the brevity of the 48-hour claim period and the lack of explicit communication regarding this requirement. The unclaimed prize money is allocated to the Stampede and the Calgary Marching Show Band Association as per AGLC guidelines.
Legal expert Farhad Shekib suggests that Geiger could potentially pursue a breach of contract case based on the clarity and fairness of the claim period terms. Shekib emphasizes the importance of transparent communication to ticket purchasers about claim deadlines to avoid misunderstandings.
