A 14-year-old boy tragically ended his life following false allegations of stealing a baby’s ashes, as revealed during an inquest.
John Lloyd discovered his son, Kai, deceased in their home in Dodds Drive, Connah’s Quay, on November 19, 2021, just eight days after Kai’s arrest. The inquest in Ruthin disclosed that Kai’s mother, Lisa Lloyd, received a message from Chloe Robinson on November 8, falsely accusing Kai of burgling her flat.
Despite Kai not being directly named in the accusations that spread rapidly on social media, the small community identified him, leading to bullying at school due to the false claims. Mrs. Lloyd emphasized Kai’s caring nature and refuted the accusations, stating that the situation deeply affected him.
Mrs. Lloyd asserted Kai’s innocence and attempted to clear his name by contacting the police, but received no response before Kai’s tragic death. Kai, who was well-liked at school, maintained his innocence when confronted by peers and school staff.
The coroner, John Gittins, highlighted the baseless nature of the allegations and the impact of social media in magnifying falsehoods. He concluded that there was no evidence of external influence on Kai’s decision to take his own life and deferred further action pending information on handling cases involving individuals with ADHD.
