Beauty Bay Faces Potential Collapse Amid Administration Notice

Beauty Bay, an online retailer specializing in cosmetics, is facing potential collapse following the submission of a notice of intention to appoint administrators. This action indicates the company’s readiness to enter administration, triggering a temporary legal protection period that prevents creditors from pursuing legal actions for ten days.

According to reports from Sky News, the notice was lodged earlier this week. Concurrently, Beauty Bay has temporarily taken down its website, displaying a message stating, “We’ll Be Back Soon. BEAUTY BAY is offline right now, we’ll be back shortly.”

Established in 1999 by brothers Arron and David Gabbie in Manchester, Beauty Bay offers a wide range of beauty brands on its platform, including Ariana Grande, Clinique, MAC, and its own product line. The company had been exploring various funding options, potentially including a complete sale of the business.

Interpath, an advisory firm, had been collaborating with Beauty Bay to conduct a comprehensive review of its operations. The company, which employs 65 individuals, has not yet provided a public statement regarding the situation.

In a related development, fashion retailer Quiz has also fallen into administration, resulting in the loss of 109 jobs. The redundancies are concentrated at the company’s head office in Glasgow and warehouse in Lanarkshire. Quiz’s website has been deactivated, and customers with pending online orders are being notified of cancellations.

Quiz is advising affected customers to seek refunds through their banks or credit card providers. Those who made purchases exceeding £100 with a credit card may be eligible for a refund under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. Additionally, customers who made debit card payments or credit card transactions under £100 within the last 120 days can explore Chargeback options.

While Quiz’s physical stores are operational, the retailer has ceased honoring gift cards and is planning clearance sales across its outlets. Quiz, with 40 stores nationwide and concessions within New Look and Matalan stores, has specified that its concessions operating within these establishments are not subject to the administration proceedings.
