“British Airways to Offer Free In-Flight Wi-Fi with Starlink”

British Airways has made a significant announcement regarding its in-flight Wi-Fi services. The airline disclosed that it will provide complimentary onboard Wi-Fi capable of supporting video streaming following a partnership between its parent company and Elon Musk’s Starlink.

The airline confirmed plans to implement this new technology on its services starting next year as part of a major transformation initiative worth £7 billion. Through an agreement with Starlink, a company owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, International Airlines Group will enable internet access on over 500 aircraft in its fleet.

Starlink operates a network of satellites orbiting the Earth, and British Airways stated that passengers will soon have access to free Wi-Fi in all cabins without needing a special login. Currently, the airline offers limited Wi-Fi services across most of its aircraft, ranging from free text messaging for loyalty program members to paid packages for streaming music and video content, priced between £4.99 and £21.99 based on duration.

Sean Doyle, the CEO of British Airways, emphasized the focus on enhancing customer experience through the introduction of Starlink technology on both long-haul and short-haul flights. Doyle highlighted the game-changing nature of this move, providing passengers with seamless connectivity throughout their journey, even over oceans and remote areas.

The recent partnership with Starlink follows British Airways’ announcement of a new transatlantic flight route connecting London Heathrow to St Louis in Missouri. The airline plans to launch these flights on April 19, 2026, operating four times weekly during the summer months.

Neil Chernoff, the Chief Planning and Strategy Officer at British Airways, described St Louis as a valuable addition to the airline’s US network, offering unique cultural experiences and serving as a gateway to other destinations. With St Louis becoming its 27th American city served, British Airways aims to strengthen ties between the UK and the US Midwest with this new direct route.

British Airways asserts its position as the leading UK airline serving multiple American cities and anticipates becoming the sole UK carrier offering direct flights to St Louis.
