The cost of the TV licence fee is increasing once again, with a rise from £174.50 to £180 starting in April. A TV licence is necessary for watching or recording live TV, as well as accessing any live or catch-up content on BBC iPlayer.
If you solely watch shows on catch-up through streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, ITVX, Disney Plus, YouTube, All 4, or My5, then a TV licence is not required. However, if you stream live shows through these services, a TV licence is needed. Failure to have a TV licence when watching programmes requiring one could result in a fine of up to £1,000.
In the event that you no longer require your TV licence before it expires, you may be eligible for a refund, provided there is at least one month remaining. Refunds are also available for individuals eligible for over 75 or blind concessions.
