At least 11 individuals lost their lives in a tragic fire at retirement home apartments, with witnesses describing flames engulfing the upper floors of the building. The devastating incident occurred on the seventh floor of a structure in Tuzla, Bosnia, around 8:45 pm last night, resulting in over 30 people sustaining injuries.
Nermin Niksic, the Prime Minister of Bosnia’s Muslim-Croat region, labeled the fire a “catastrophe of immense proportions.” Video footage captured flames pouring out of the building’s upper windows. Authorities plan to begin identifying the victims and launch an investigation into the fire’s cause as soon as conditions permit, as per police reports.
A resident named Ruza Kajic, residing on the third floor, recounted being awakened by a loud noise. She witnessed burning debris falling from above and rushed to the hallway, where she realized that bedridden individuals occupied the higher floors.
In response to the tragedy, the retirement home issued a statement affirming that authorities are diligently working to uncover the circumstances leading to the incident. Reports from local media indicated that several patients received treatment for carbon monoxide poisoning, with three individuals in critical condition at the Tuzla University clinical center.
Savo Minic, the Prime Minister of the Serb Republic, expressed condolences, stating, “We share in the sorrow and stand ready to assist.”
