Frankie Dettori Retires After Brazil Win

Frankie Dettori has officially retired from his illustrious career as a jockey after securing a significant win in Brazil by clinching the first part of the nation’s Triple Crown series. Initially planning to retire at Ascot’s Champions Day in October 2023, Dettori had a change of heart and extended his career in the United States.

The 55-year-old announced his retirement last November, marking his final races at the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar before embarking on a farewell tour in South America, culminating at Rio de Janeiro’s Gavea racecourse. During this final stretch, Dettori triumphed with two wins, first aboard Speak Alpha and then on Bet You Can in the prestigious Brazilian 2,000 Guineas race, known as the Grande Premio Estado do Rio De Janeiro.

This last victory allowed Dettori to showcase his iconic flying dismount celebration one more time. Reflecting on his remarkable achievement, he expressed his unexpected joy at winning a Group 1 race on his final day. Grateful for his successful career, Dettori acknowledged the emotional closure and expressed gratitude for the wonderful experiences he had in the sport.

Transitioning into a new role post-retirement, Dettori has accepted a position as a global ambassador for Amo Racing, led by Kia Joorabchian. In a heartfelt message to his fans on social media, the jockey reminisced about his lifelong dedication to horse racing, starting as a young rider in Italy nearly four decades ago. He thanked his family for their unwavering support, as well as trainers, owners, and fellow jockeys who shared in his journey.

Expressing profound appreciation for the fans who supported him throughout his career, Dettori concluded by thanking everyone who contributed to his remarkable racing journey, acknowledging the impact they had on his life and career.
