“Co-op Unveils Plans for 18 New Stores by Early 2026”

Co-op has revealed plans to launch 18 new or revamped stores within the initial quarter of 2026.

The inaugural Co-op store for the year 2026 is set to open in the upcoming Willowbrook Park community in Didcot, situated in Oxfordshire.

Several stores are scheduled for reopening post a refurbishment, including the convenience store located in Eastern Green, Coventry, and a franchise-run establishment in Ealing, London.

Kate McCrae, Co-op’s Operations Director, emphasized the company’s commitment to establishing local stores that serve as community hubs, offering quality products and value to cater to the needs of local residents.

“We are thrilled to inaugurate our first store of 2026 in Oxfordshire, marking the commencement of an extensive store opening program aimed at expanding and enriching Co-op’s presence across various high streets and communities in the UK,” McCrae stated.

In related news, Co-op recently disclosed its initiative to generate numerous new apprenticeships in the coming years. The retail giant has pledged £70 million via its Levy Share service to facilitate the creation of 7,000 matched apprenticeships by 2030.

Through this scheme, levy-paying employers can transfer unused apprenticeship levy funds to businesses, charities, and community organizations. Since its inception four years ago, the scheme has successfully matched over 3,800 apprenticeships, with a significant portion allocated to the most disadvantaged communities and the care sector.

Claire Costello, Co-op’s chief people and inclusion officer, highlighted the impact of the Co-op Levy Share program in transforming unused levy funds into valuable opportunities through the provision of life-changing apprenticeships.

Furthermore, Co-op advocated for the collection of socioeconomic background data for apprenticeships to ensure inclusivity and prevent certain groups from being marginalized by the system.
