The late British tech mogul’s daughter has left her mother a substantial inheritance following a tragic yacht accident that claimed their lives. Mike Lynch, 59, and his daughter Hannah, 18, lost their lives, along with others, when their yacht sank during a storm off Sicily last year.
Angela Bacares, Lynch’s wife, narrowly escaped the tragedy by being on deck while the yacht tilted and subsequently sank. Angela recounted the last moments she spent with her husband before the disaster struck.
Posthumous documents have revealed that Hannah left an estate valued at over £5 million, which is expected to pass to her mother under inheritance laws. This inheritance holds significant meaning for Angela as she faces legal challenges related to her late husband’s estate.
Legal actions against Angela include claims from families of the yacht victims and a ruling by the UK High Court requiring Lynch’s estate to repay over £700 million to Hewlett-Packard due to fraud claims. The legal battle stems from HP’s acquisition of Lynch’s company Autonomy in 2011, where allegations of financial misrepresentation were raised.
Hannah, described as a warm and intelligent individual, tragically perished alongside her father in the yacht disaster. Lynch’s own estate is estimated to be valued at around £500 million, with details of his will yet to be disclosed. Despite Lynch’s acquittal in a U.S. fraud trial prior to his passing, a separate UK civil fraud case in 2022 resulted in a significant financial liability for his estate.
