Three tourists lost their lives, and two others are currently missing following an avalanche that struck the Alps mountain range. The tragic incident occurred on the rocky Cima Vertana in the Ortles Mountain range in Italy, with the avalanche being triggered around 4 pm in the South Tyrol region.
Efforts are ongoing to locate the two missing members of the ski mountaineering team, consisting of five individuals. Search operations involve a helicopter rescue service and firefighters who are actively involved in the search and rescue mission.
The victims, a 30-year-old man and woman, along with a 50-year-old man, were swept away during their climbing expedition. Rescuers later recovered their lifeless bodies. Reports suggest that the avalanche occurred suddenly, trapping two climbers under debris and causing minor injuries.
According to information from the Italian outlet Union Sarda, the avalanche’s occurrence was abrupt, leading to the tragic consequences for the climbers involved.
