Campbell’s has taken action against a senior executive following allegations of disrespectful comments aimed at the renowned soup brand. The executive, Martin Bally, is accused of making derogatory remarks during a heated outburst that has sparked a legal battle in the US. Court documents claim that Bally, the Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer of Campbell’s, went on a profanity-laden tirade disparaging customers, colleagues, and the company’s products.
The allegations surfaced in a lawsuit filed by Robert Garza, a former cybersecurity analyst at Campbell’s. Garza claims he was terminated unjustly after reporting Bally’s behavior to management and asserts that he possesses a secret recording of the incident. According to Garza, the incident occurred during a meeting in November 2024 at Campbell’s headquarters in New Jersey, where Bally, in a departure from discussing Garza’s salary, launched into a 75-minute verbal attack on various aspects of the company.
In the recording, Bally is purported to have criticized Campbell’s products as unsuitable for consumption, labeling them as processed food intended for lower-income individuals. Additionally, Bally allegedly made derogatory remarks about Indian colleagues, which Garza reported to his supervisor before his subsequent dismissal in January 2025.
Garza’s attorney, Zachary Runyan, contends that Garza was fired for standing up against discriminatory behavior in the workplace. Runyan criticized Campbell’s response to the situation, accusing the company of unfairly penalizing Garza while allowing Bally to retain his position. Campbell’s has taken steps to address the issue by suspending Bally pending an investigation into the allegations.
In a statement, Campbell’s expressed disapproval of the reported comments, emphasizing that they do not align with the company’s values. The company affirmed its commitment to investigating the matter thoroughly. The lawsuit names Bally, Aupperle, and Campbell Soup Company as defendants and seeks compensation for wrongful termination.
