“Brothers’ Training Duo Scores Upset Win at Punchestown”

A training duo, consisting of a handler with just a pair of horses and his jockey brother, achieved a significant victory as Oscars Brother triumphed in the Boodles Florida Pearl Novice Chase at Punchestown. Despite facing competition from prominent stables like Gordon Elliott and Henry de Bromhead, as well as the 2025 Stayers’ Hurdle fourth-placer Rocky’s Diamond, Connor King’s Oscars Brother, ridden by his brother Daniel, emerged victorious.

Maintaining a leading position throughout the race, Oscars Brother, the 7-4 favorite, displayed impeccable jumping skills and finished three lengths ahead of Koktail Divin from De Bromhead’s yard. Prior to this three-mile race on soft to heavy ground at Punchestown, Oscars Brother had prepared in a novice chase at Galway.

The brothers are optimistic about Oscars Brother’s potential to become a Grade One horse, especially considering their small training operation with only one other horse. Daniel expressed his delight at winning for his brother, emphasizing the horse’s positive progress and competitive spirit.

Looking ahead, Connor, a former jockey, mentioned the possibility of aiming for the Grade One Faugheen Novices’ Chase at Limerick during the Christmas period. Reflecting on Oscars Brother’s transition from hurdles to chasing, Connor highlighted the significance of targeting races like the Boodles Florida Pearl Novice Chase as stepping stones to success.
