Christian Horner is reportedly being considered as a potential replacement for Andy Cowell at Aston Martin as team principal, with rumors circulating that the 56-year-old may be removed from his position following the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Horner, a former leader at Red Bull, has been eager to return to Formula 1 since leaving in July.
After a challenging Las Vegas GP, reports from RacingNews365 suggested that Cowell was on the verge of being ousted from his role at Aston Martin due to the team’s current struggles, placing seventh in the Constructors’ Championship standings, just eight points ahead of Sauber in ninth place. The report identified Andreas Seidl, a former McLaren and Sauber figure, as the top candidate to take over the position.
Nonetheless, according to BBC Sport, Horner is also in contention to succeed Cowell. The renowned former head of Red Bull has been linked with various teams since departing in July, including Ferrari, Haas, and Alpine, making this opportunity potentially his most significant return to the sport.
Speculations about Horner moving to Aston Martin emerged before the Singapore Grand Prix but were promptly dismissed by Cowell, who clarified that there were no plans to involve the 52-year-old in any operational or investment capacity in the future.
If Horner does make a comeback with Aston Martin, it would lead to a reunion with his rival Zak Brown, who criticized the ex-Red Bull chief before the Las Vegas triple-header.
In a separate event, Red Bull had cause for celebration in Las Vegas as Max Verstappen kept his Drivers’ Championship hopes alive by winning the race. Verstappen overtook pole-sitter and title contender Lando Norris to secure victory by a significant margin.
Following the race, both McLaren cars were disqualified for failing post-race FIA inspections, allowing Verstappen to close the gap on Norris in the championship standings as they head to Qatar.
